Materials :
- Hook 2 mm (B)
- White cotton thread for the top
- Red cotton thread for the sherry
- Cotton thread of your favourite “taste” (mine is praline)
- Stuff
Cake : With the cotton thread you choose
- ch 8, close the circle with 1 sl.
- Row 1 : ch 3, 14 dc in the circle, close with 1 sl.
- Row 2 : ch 3, 1 dc in the same dc, 2 dc in each dc of the previous row, end with 1 sl = 30 sts.
- Row 3 : ch 1, *1 sc in the first dc, 2 sc in the next one* , repeat from * to *, end with 1 sl = 45 sts.
- Row 4 : pass the hook only under the front thread of the st from the previous row. Ch 1, * 2 sc, 1 sc over 2 sc * , repeat from * to * , end with a sl = 30 sts.
- Rows 5 and 6 : ch 1, 1 sc in each sc , end with a sl = still 30 sts.
- Row 7 : ch 1, * 3 sc, 2 sc in the next sc *, repeat from * to *, end with 1 sl = 38 sts.
- Row 8 : ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, end with a sl = 38 sts.
- Row 9 : ch 1, * 3 sc, 2 sc in the next sc *, repeat from * to *, end with 1 sl = 47 sts.
- Rows 10 to 12 : ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, end with a sl.
- Cut the tread and stop the work.
Frosting : with white cotton thread
- ch 5, close the circle with 1 sl
- Row 1 : ch 1, 10 sc into the circle. Do not close the row with 1 sl, so that you won’t have any mark onto your cupcake. Put a marker or a contrasting colour thread to mark the beginning of the row.
- Row 2 : ch 1, 2 sc in each sc of the previous row = 20 sts.
- Row 3 : ch 1, * 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next one * repeat from * to * , = 30 sts.
- Row 4 : ch 1, * 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next two sc *, repeat from * to * = 40 sts.
- Row 5 : ch 1, * 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next three sc *, repeat from * to * = 50 sts.
- Row 6 : ch 1, * 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next four sc *, repeat from * to * = 55 sts.
- Rows 7 and 8 : ch 1, 1 sc in each sc of the previous row, close with a sl at the end of the 8° row.
- Scalloped edge : turn your work on the wrong side (which become the right side and is more regular) , * 3 sc in the first sc, 1 sl in the next sc * repeat from * to *, end with 1 sl.
- Cut the thread and stop the work.
The sherry : with red cotton thread
- ch 6 and close the circle with 1 sl.
- Row 1 : ch 1, 7 sc in the circle.
- Row 2 : ch 1, 2 sc in each sc of the previous row = 16 sts.
- Row 3 : ch 1, * 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next sc *, repeat from * to *, = 24 sts.
- Cut the thread and stop the work.
Finishing :
- sew with a tapestry needle, the frosting to the edge of the cake just inside the scalloped edge so that the border will be free. Only sew the 4/5 of the round, fill the cake with stuff, then sew the last part of the edge.
- Sew the 3/4 of the sherry on top of the cake with red thread. Fill a little the sherry with stuff, then finish the sewing.
- Weave in ends.
